I believe the ocean carries the best stories to the shore. Three years ago, I had never even picked up a piece of sea glass or painted anything on a frame. My only art experience is a few years in theatre and photography two decades ago. But life has a funny way of making you do the things that are most uncomfortable, and opening your eyes to the beauty that is possible, especially in Alaska.
Today, I create unique sea glass art and silversmith jewelry under the name Salt & Salvage. What started as a way to pass the rainy days in Kodiak has now grown into a "spark" of a family business- my husband is learning metalsmithing and my children often find the best pieces of glass and pottery. Our work is shaped entirely by what the tide leaves behind: reclaimed metals, shells, pottery, and ocean-tumbled sea glass. Every piece is handmade by me and my husband, produced only as the materials are gathered, and are deeply connected to both Kodiak and the ocean.
