Woody Koning

In my mind, I have been an artist all my life, aren't we all? I studied drafting, drawing, painting, commercial
art, illustration and sculpture. I came to Kodiak in 1976 to work in commercial fishing and found my home.
Fishing has taken me all around the archipelago, and introduced me to the region's fantastic land and
seascapes as well as the most interesting people. I hope to share my experiences and emotional attachment to these islands, their creatures and people through my art. I have worked in various media including: pen and ink, acrylic, oil, and multiple sculpture media. Currently I construct stretcher bars with european linen stretched over the frame: primed and gessoed in my studio.
